Tampa, Florida-- Detectives are currently investigating a deputy-involved shooting that took place as deputies were trying to serve an arrest warrant Tuesday afternoon.
According to a Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office report, the shooting happened just after 3:15 p.m. near County Road 579 & E. Dr. MLK Jr. Blvd. in Mango.
The deputies involved in the shooting were not injured, though officials say the suspect, 25-year-old Justin Bryant, was airlifted to Tampa General Hospital where he remained Tuesday night.
Bryant, said to be a career criminal with nearly 50 felony arrests, was reportedly sitting in a stolen Lincoln Navigator at a gas station when the deputies approached him to arrest him for multiple grand theft auto incidents.
Bryant, however, decided to speed at the detectives- forcing one to dive and move a witness out of the way, and the other to push himself away from the vehicle and fire two shots his way.
The other deputy fired a shot in Bryant's direction as well- totaling three shots before Bryant crashed the car into a pillar next to a gas pump.
Both deputies were placed on administrative leave as a part of standard procedure.
