Tampa, Florida - Tampa Police are still searching for two teenagers connected to a shooting near Ferrell Middle Magnet School.
"The school resource officer here at Ferrell Middle Magnet was directing traffic and while he was directing traffic letting cars in and out- he heard shots fired in the area," said Tampa Police Department spokesperson Andrea Davis.
The officer chased the teenagers on foot, but they got away so he called in backup.
A perimeter was set up and search was conducted by ground and air, but the teens managed to elude authorities.
According to authorities, the recently fired gun was discovered by K-9 units not far from the school just before 5 p.m.
Detectives will examine the weapon in an effort to track down those involved in the shooting.
Parents were alerted to the incident and the lock-downs by a phone message sent out by the school district.
"I was driving here thinking of the worst. All I heard was it was a gunshot, and when you heard gunshot, I mean I sped up over here," said one parent who identified himself at Edward.
Anyone with information on the whereabouts of the teenagers seen fleeing the scene is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-873-TIPS.
