Tampa, Florida -- North Nebraska Avenue has reopened after being closed for several hours Monday morning.
A woman reportedly fell asleep behind the wheel and crashed into a telephone pole.
Tampa police say the accident happened shortly after 1 a.m. The driver of a 2000 Toyota Camry was traveling northbound when the car left the roadway and struck the pole at N. Nebraska and East Bryan Street. The pole broke off at its base and was held suspended by the overhead hanging wires.
TECO determined the pole could not be repaired and must be replaced. North Nebraska was shut down from East 19th Avenue to East Forest Street for several hours as crews worked to replace the pole and secure the power lines. The road reopened around 7 a.m.
The driver of the vehicle is not injured.
