Palm River-Clair Mel, FL -- Hillsborough County deputies are searching for a gunman who allegedly shot a passenger in a F-150 truck on Monday at the intersection of U.S. 301 and Causeway Blvd. just after 6:00 p.m.
Crystal Nunez, from the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office, said 45-year-old Kristen Craig was driving the truck east on Causeway Blvd. with 45-year-old William Seago in her passenger seat. While they stopped at the light, an Hispanic man got out of a white SUV behind them, came up to Seago's door and shot him twice. He hit his leg, arm and chest. Seago is in stable condition at Tampa General Hospital.
Detectives said Craig told them she did not know the shooter.
"She says she may have cut someone off and that's why they were angry," said Nunez.
Nunez also said they're not sure it was a road rage incident, and that detectives are still investigating.
10 News got a hold of some exclusive surveillance video from the Marathon gas station at the intersection. In it, a person enters traffic sitting at the traffic light headed east on Causeway Blvd right at 6:06 p.m. and about 42 seconds. Then, that same person runs back into traffic.
"If it was road rage I wouldn't be surprised," said Bob Rivelli, who works near the intersection. "I drive through here every day for work and I see a lot of road rage and it is a very busy intersection. I have seen my share of drivers flipping others off."
He said it's scary to see that kind of anger and he wishes the SUV driver was only flipping the F-150 off instead allegedly getting out of his car to shoot the passenger.
"It is strange, though that the SUV driver shot the passenger instead of the driver, maybe it wasn't road rage. I guess we'll wait to find out," said Rivelli.
