Tampa, Florida -- NBA legend "Magic" Johnson was in Tampa Tuesday to launch a partnership that brings quality HIV/AIDS care to Medicaid patients.
Clear Health Alliance is the first and only Medicaid plan with a designated specialty for HIV/AIDS in the region. With the new USF Health partnership, Clear Health will work with community providers and organizations to help Medicaid patients.
"When you think about the numbers of HIV and AIDS, it's affecting the black and brown communities bigger than any other community. We make up of over 50 percent of all the new cases as far as HIV and AIDS are concerned. And we need partners who can help us bring these numbers down," Johnson said.
Florida ranks third in the nation for the number of people living with HIV/AIDS. The University area has the highest HIV/STD rate in Hillsborough County, and one of the highest in the state.
