Tampa, Florida -- On Monday, September 23, Tampa International Airport will begin a runway maintenance project requiring the closure of Runway 1L/19R, their main runway, for one month.
This is routine work that must be done every 15 years to keep the runway in good condition. Crews will also perform miscellaneous concrete maintenance on other parts of the airfield.
As a result of the closure, aircraft will take off and land on the secondary runway where takeoff and landing patterns will send planes over residential areas. During the maintenance period, expected to end on or about Oct. 23, people who live and work around the airport will notice an increase in aircraft noise throughout the day.
