Frustrated I-275 drivers through the Tampa corridor may be wondering what exactly is going on and when they can expect it to be finished. With constant entrance and exit changes and frequent lane closures, it may seem that I-275 will never be finished.
The Florida Department of Transportation's John McShaffrey says that the contractor overseeing the project is currently on schedule to have the highway widening completed by the summer of 2016. The widening will allow for a larger median area that can be used for any future expansion, minimizing the impact on traffic flow while construction is underway. Entrances and exits will flow more smoothly with longer approaches to the highway itself. I-275 is also under-going a flattening that will help to minimize visual hazards so that the danger of drivers approaching a traffic jam at high speeds is minimized.
We will keep tabs on the progress of this widening over the course of the next couple of years, and be sure to tune in to "The Morning Show" for updates on entrance and exit changes, lane closures and road work schedules.
