TAMPA, Florida -- Police arrested the man accused of shooting a pregnant woman at her West Tampa Apartment on Wednesday evening.
The suspect, identified by Tampa Police early Thursday morning as 22-year-old Jamar Silas, was caught after a chase that ended on E. Selma Street and N. Mayfield Avenue in Tampa.
"The officers exercised what's called a pit maneuver, where they pump the car and spin it out of control," said Tampa Police Dept. spokesperson Laura McElroy.
The incident began around 4:55 p.m. on Wednesday afternoon. Police were called to 22-year-old Brianna Anderson's home.
When they arrived, they found the woman, who was 8 months pregnant, suffering from a gunshot wound. The suspect was nowhere to be found.
Anderson was rushed to the hospital. She reportedly died during transport, but was later revived by medics. Her baby was delivered via C-section and is reportedly healthy.
Authorities said Anderson was on life support, but she was later pronounced dead at TGH.
Word has been spreading in the neighborhood that the shooting is the victim's boyfriend, although police will not confirm that information.
"It's been things going on between those two for a while now and that type of thing I don't agree with," said neighbor Maurice Harris.
Following his capture Wednesday night, the suspect was taken to Tampa Police headquarters to be questioned by police investigators.
