Valrico, Florida - A 16-year-old boy learning how to drive slammed into a gas station store at 3353 Lithia Pinecrest Road Sunday afternoon around 4:15 p.m., according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office.
Investigators say 54-year-old John Burbridge was in the passenger seat of the 2005 Toyota Camry when they pulled up to the front of the store and his son hit the gas pedal instead of the brake. Detectives say he drove right through the front of the store.
There were customers inside at the time.
A man in the store pushed a woman out of the way so she wouldn't be hit. She complained of neck and back pain after falling and was transported to Brandon Regional Hospital.
The man who pushed her out of the way received a scratch on his arm from a soda display. Both are expected to be okay. No one else was hurt.
Andrew Burbridge was cited for no valid driver's license and for permitting an unauthorized driver.
The vehicle they were in sustained about $6,000 in damage. The damage to the store is about $5,000. The father and son were not hurt.
