The public funeral will be held Thursday at 1:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of Indian Rocks on Ulmerton Road.
Thursday's legislative House session has been canceled so that Congress can attend the funeral. The community is expecting local and national politicians. Several Pinellas County commissioners have said they plan to attend and Clearwater Mayor George Cretekos confirmed he is going. Cretekos worked for Congressman Young from 1971 until he retired in 2006.
Local law enforcement is working closely with the church to provide a plan to accommodate the large crowds and will reveal their plan in the next couple days.
The church seats 3,000 and it is expecting an overflow of 1,200.
The 82-year-old Republican, halfway through his 22nd term, died Friday at the Walter Reed Military Medical Center in Maryland. He announced on Oct. 10 he would not run for re-election to the House, a position he held since 1970.
