St. Petersburg, Florida -- The Tampa Bay Rowdies have a new owner -- an owner who vows to invest in the team and the stadium.
St. Petersburg businessman Bill Edwards announced Thursday he's bought controlling interest in the the Rowdies becoming the principal owner. He also announced the re-signing of Coach Ricky Hill.
Edwards says he has big plans for the team.
"I'm going to keep on getting this thing going and make it more visible, make it more exciting, make sure we win games, win some championships and make sure St. Petersburg has a great time enjoying the games," Edwards said in Thursday's press conference.
In addition to the new ownership, the Rowdies announced they will add premium midfield seating for the 2014 season.
The Rowdies started playing again in 2008 with a goal of building on the tradition from the original Rowdies of the 70s and 80s.
