Tampa, Florida -- The Florida Department of Transportation announced Tuesday Himes Avenue will be closed under the I-275 overpass around-the-clock starting at 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 17 until 5:00 p.m. Friday, Dec. 20.
A single lane will also be closed in each direction approaching the interstate.
NORTHBOUND DETOUR: West on Cypress Street, north on Dale Mabry Highway then east on Spruce Street.
SOUTHBOUND DETOUR: West on Spruce Street, south on Dale Mabry Highway, then east on Cypress Street.
Beginning early Wednesday morning, Dec. 18, the southbound I-275 Exit 41C ramp to Himes Avenue will become an exit from the LEFT lane of southbound I-275.
This will be a temporary change for the next phase of construction, lasting until about late 2014 when the exit will return permanently to a right-lane exit. Drivers are asked to be alert and considerate as motorists adjust to the left exit.
Until Friday at 5:00 p.m. (possibly sooner), drivers will be forced to turn left and go south on Himes Avenue after exiting southbound I-275.
The suggested detour is to go south on Himes, turn right onto Cypress Street and go west, turn right onto Dale Mabry Highway and go north to Spruce street, then turn right and go east on Spruce to Himes Avenue.
Beginning Friday afternoon, motorists will once again be able to go either direction on Himes after exiting southbound I-275.
