Tampa, Florida - The Lynx, a replica of the 1812 armed American privateer that helped fight the British in the War of 1812, sailed into Tampa Wednesday.
Lynx is moored at the Tampa Convention Center and offers visitors a chance to experience an authentic, historic representation of an armed schooner from the 1800's.
The Lynx Educational Foundation explained the 114-ton wooden ship sails as a living history museum, providing inspiration and serving as a classroom for the study of history, ecology and the environment.
Members of the Lynx crew wear period uniforms. They operate the ship in keeping with 19th century traditions.
Lynx leaves Tampa for St. Petersburg January 23. It will remain in the Bay area through mid-March.
