Lutz, Florida -- A fire at a home in Lutz began overnight, reminding residents that a large amount of fires begin at night while people are asleep.
Fire rescue units found heavy smoke coming from the home on Mobilaire Drive on Sunday morning. The crews were able to extinguish the fire and residents were evacuated prior to their arrival.
There were no injuries to civilians or personnel and the American Red Cross was initiated to help with the displacement of the residents. The cause of the fire was determined electrical and isolated to one area.
The largest percentage of fire deaths in the home occurs at night while people are asleep. Therefore, a working smoke alarm can provide an early warning that can make the difference between life and death.
If you do not have smoke alarms in your home and can not afford them, please call HCFR at 813-272-6600 and ask about the SAFE program.
