Attempted homicide suspect sought in Largo


The suspect in yesterday's shooting has been identified as 24-year-old Rion L. Schofield. Schofield is 5'5", 160 lbs, and wears prescription glasses.

The Investigation has revealed the suspect showed up alone at the park on a bicycle and started a verbal disturbance with a juvenile male that was already there with some friends. During the argument, the suspect displayed a gun before riding away. As the suspect started to ride away, he pointed the gun back toward the juveniles and fired multiple rounds.

One round struck a 17-year-old male in the arm.

Schofield is believed to be armed and dangerous.

LARGO, FLA. -- The Largo Police received a call of a shooting that occurred at approximately 7:39 Sunday evening, at 375 Seminole Blvd.

This is the Bayhead Recreation Complex and the shooting occurred in the area of the skate park.

Shortly before the shooting occurred, a subject rode up to the area on a bicycle and started a verbal disturbance with a subject that was already at that location.

After the two parties exchanged words, the subject who rode up on the bicycle produced a gun and started to fire it. He struck a juvenile male subject in the arm, resulting in non-life threatening injuries.

No other injuries have been reported.

The suspect then rode away on his bicycle. The suspect is described as a short black male, approximately 5'5". He was wearing a blue and orange hat, no shirt, and either beige or blue shorts. The subject has been described as thin and muscular. He was riding a female-style beach cruiser bicycle.

There is no additional information available at the time.

Detectives are actively working this case.
