Bearss Avenue reopens after acid spill

Tampa, Florida -- A toxic chemical spill caused traffic problems in Tampa on Friday.

Hillsborough County Fire Rescue responded to a report of unknown jugs in the roadway of Bearss Avenue, just before noon.

The substance inside the jugs was later confirmed to be hydrochloric acid, which is highly corrosive and has many industrial uses.

Fire Rescue performed a wash down of the road. Bearss is now open in both directions. Interstate 275 was also briefly shut down during the spill, but it too has reopened in both directions.
