Tampa, Florida – The big Bollywood awards event last April gave Bay Area residents a taste of Indian movie stars, music, and fashion and the Miss India Florida pageant aims to continue to boost India culture.
The pageant takes place November 14, at 7:00 p.m. at Busch Gardens in Tampa.
"This is a great event to get everybody excited, get some Bollywood celebrities back in town and get people excited again," said pageant director Rahul Prakash.
The event is open to the public and you can find ticket information here.
15 young women are vying for a chance to move on to the Miss India USA competition in New York City. They will compete in talent and fashion categories.
Roshni Hannon, a former Miss India Florida, says contestants benefit from taking part. "These young women are putting their lives on hold for a little bit, for an amazing experience," she said. "You make friends, you get over stage fright; there's a lot of good you walk away with, whether or not you walk away with the crown."
The pageant also helps raise funds for the charity CARE India, which helps women and girls in India, primarily through education programs.
