Bucs DT McCoy's father injured by teen burglar

TAMPA -- Buccaneers defensive tackle Gerald McCoy's father suffered a broken wrist in an altercation with a suspected armed burglar at McCoy's residence in the hours before he was set to play against the Atlanta Falcons on November 3.

Tampa Police Department reported that Gerald McCoy Sr., 59, confronted suspect Justin J. Frazier, 17, when McCoy Sr. discovered Frazier in a second story guest room above a garage around 3:58 p.m. Thursday.

According to the report, Frazier was able to enter the residence through an unlocked door at the home in the Reserve subdivision in New Tampa.

The confrontation turned physical and McCoy Sr. fractured his wrist in the ensuing struggle. Police said that Frazier pulled a silver handgun and threatened the elder McCoy but was able to flee the scene.

Police were alerted to a second break-in in a neighboring residence after they had set up neighborhood perimeter. Officers and K-9 units searched the home and located Frazier hiding in a storage area beneath a staircase.The suspect was taken into custody without incident. He was also positively identified by McCoy Sr. and two other victims.

Frazier brought two backpacks along with him,one of which was dropped at the McCoy residence. The second back[pack was recovered following Frazier's arrest. A search of both backpacks revealed a stolen XBox One game console taken from McCoy's house, two Air Soft-style BB guns and other property linked to an earlier burglary in Pasco County.

In addition to new charges of armed burglar of an occupied dwelling, armed burglary of an unoccupied dwelling, grand theft. aggravated assault and aggravated battery, Frazier has outstanding warrants out of Hillsborough and Polk County.

According to the release, Frazier is a known runaway out of Polk with a history of crimes including robbery, grand theft auto, dealing in stolen property, property fraud and passing counterfeit bank bills.
