City approves grant for police body cams

Sarasota, Florida - Here's a follow-up to a story 10 News first brought you in June about Sarasota City Police wearing body cameras.

Sarasota City Commissioners approved a $36,000 grant from the U.S. Department of Justice to buy the police department two dozen body cameras for police officers.

Police can wear the small torpedo-shaped cameras on their collar, epaulette, glasses or hat.

At the end of each shift, the officer loads the video onto a secure server. Officers cannot edit, delete, copy or alter the video.

Sarasota Police should be wearing the cameras by Taser this October.
