Coast Guard rescues injured man from fishing boat

A man who was injured on a commercial boat off Hernando was airlifted by a Coast Guard chopper.

CLEARWATER, Fla. — The Coast Guard rescued a 28-year-old man from a fishing boat 80 miles west of Hernando County on Thursday.

At 2:15 p.m. Sector St. Petersburg watchstanders received a radio call from a 70-foot commercial fishing boat, Rooster, stating a crewmember had fallen aboard the boat and was suffering from rib pains.

A flight surgeon was notified and recommended the man be flown to a hospital.

An MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter was launched, arrived on scene, hoisted the injured crewmember and transported him to Tampa General Hospital.
