TAMPA, Fla. -- Jury deliberations are set to start Thursday for the man accused of setting his estranged wife on fire more than two years ago.
Chris Hanney is on trial for attempted murder. On Wednesday, he took the stand in his own defense and claimed he was the one attacked by his estranged wife, Audrey Mabrey, and another unknown man who threatened him with a knife and stabbed him.
Hanney testified he was sitting in a chair with hands tied behind him when his wife came in the garage with a candle and gasoline. He then saw the man with her holding a pillow and a gun. Hanney claimed he kicked his feet and hit Mabrey, setting her on fire.
Prosecutors, though, say Hanney attacked his wife back in November 2009, hitting her with a hammer, dousing her with gasoline, and lighting her on fire. Mabrey took the stand yesterday.
The trial is expected to go to the jury Thursday.
