TAMPA, Fla. -- Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office deputies have arrested a man involved in a fatal hit-and-run in Tampa Saturday night, but a second driver involved in the accident is still at large.
The HCSO says a woman was walking northbound across Fletcher Ave. at Cecilia Street when she was struck by a 1993 Buick, which was traveling westbound on Fletcher. The impact of the crash pushed the woman into the outside lane, where she was then struck by a second vehicle.
Deputies say both cars fled. The woman died at the scene.
The driver of the Buick, 27-year-old Javier Fernandez, turned himself in at around midnight. He was charged with leaving the scene of a crash involving death and driving without a valid driver's license.
The sheriff's office is still searching for the second vehicle, a late 1990's black Nissan Maxima with a sunroof. It has a Florida orange and black colored specialty tag, dark-tinted windows, stock rims, and possible undercarriage damage.
The woman's identity is not known at this time.
