New Port Richey, Florida - Federal and local law enforcement officials continue to team up to combat Pasco's pain pill problem. On Friday, Pasco Sheriff Chris Nocco, U.S. Attorney Robert O'Neill and DEA Agent James DiCaprio announced the unsealing of two federal indictments and the arrests of more than two dozen people.
Investigators say the people arrested are involved in two separate drug rings where people illegally buy Oxycodone in Florida and then sell it in Kentucky and Tennessee. In those states a single pill can bring $30. "What makes it difficult is we're fighting greed and addiction," said DiCaprio at the Friday news conference. "That combination will always fuel the drug problem."
This most recent drug sweep is part of a two-year investigation, which in the past has also included the arrests of several local pharmacists. On Friday, detectives promised more arrests. "We're cutting the head off the snake. We're making a difference on the street," said Pasco narcotics Sgt. William Davis. "And stay tuned for the next phase."
