WESLEY CHAPEL, Florida (AP) - A Pasco County man who told deputies he was on a hog hunting trip near where delegates are staying for the Republican National Convention is now in jail.

Jail records show 40-year-old Scott Joseph Demers was being held Monday without bond. He's charged with trespassing on cultivated land and violating his probation for battery in nearby Pinellas County. An attorney is not listed.

The Tampa Bay Times reports Demers and a friend were found Saturday night running through orange groves on a private ranch. It borders a hotel where delegates from Texas and Louisiana are staying.

The men told deputies patrolling the area that they were hog hunting, but they didn't have permission to be on the property. No weapons were found.

Demers' friend was cited for trespassing.
