THONOTOSASSA, Florida -- A SWAT team was called out to a mobile home park in Thonotosassa after a man attacked his neighbor with a hammer, according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office.
Authorities say the suspect, 27-year-old Jarrett Brooks, approached 48-year-old Jonathan Acree from behind and struck him in the head and neck multiple times with a hammer.
Deputies found Acree severely injured when they arrived at the mobile home park located on Black Dairy Road. Acree was taken to Brandon Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The sheriff's office says Brooks barricaded himself inside his trailer after the attack. SWAT fired tear gas canisters into the home. Brooks came out and surrendered, and he was taken into custody.
Brooks is charged with second degree murder. Detectives are trying to determine what motivated the attack.
