Charles Newbold testifying at a his trial. A jury would convict him for raping a woman in a bus converted into living quarters in 2011.
Tampa, Florida -- A jury handed down a guilty verdict Thursday for the man accused of attacking and then raping a woman in her own home.
Charles Newbold took the stand in his own defense just hours before the verdict, saying it was consensual sex that got carried away. He never denied it was his condom and DNA found at the scene.
But the victim testified that Newbold broke in, choked her, and sexually battered her before she was able to escape.
The attack happened on a bus which the victim had converted to living quarters in Ybor City, back in May of 2011.
The case made headlines when she tweeted a description of her attacker.
The judge sentenced Newbold to life in prison.
