Hernando County, Florida-- Five construction contractors are behind bars Thursday after an undercover operation revealed they were working without a license or proper insurance.
According to reports, deputies worked alongside multiple other agencies to catch these men in the act.
The operation took place out of a home off the 6300 block of Emanuels Way. Investigators contacted various handy men who, despite their lack of licenses and insurance coverage, offered services via print and internet ads.
Each unlicensed contractor who arrived to the home to "provide an estimate" was arrested for operating a business without a Florida Professional License.
The suspects are as follows:
- Darren Ciraolo, 39 of Spring Hill
- Daniel Waymire, 50 of Brooksville
- Luis Anthony Santiago, 45 of Spring Hill
- Gregory Bishop, 35 of Brooksville
- Robert Lewis Hellyar, 41 of Brooksville
The Hernando County Sheriff's Office worked alongside the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation, the Hernando County Building Department, and the Florida Department of Financial Services to conduct the investigation.
Officials encourage residents to report suspicions of unlicensed activity by emailing ULA@dbpr.state.fl.us or calling the Unlicensed Activity Hotline at 1-866-532-1440.
