Sarasota County, Florida -- The Sarasota Police Department is investigating an armed robbery that occurred at the Marriott Residence Inn on Wednesday morning.
According to reports, officers responded to a robbery that occurred around 1 a.m. at the Marriott at 1040 University Parkway. When officers responded, the clerk said she was doing her nightly paperwork in the sitting area of the hotel and the suspect walked in and displayed a handgun.
The suspect asked the clerk to give him money as he pointed a gun at her and the clerk said no and attempted to grab the gun.
The suspect pulled the gun back and hit the clerk in the head, causing injuries. The clerk fell to the ground and told officers she was in fear of being killed so she went with him to the front desk.
The clerk unlocked the safe and gave the suspect an undisclosed amount of money. The suspect ordered the clerk to the ground face down and told her to stay there and not move.
The suspect is described as:
- A Hispanic male
- In his 20s
- 5'8" - 5'10", slender build
- Last seen wearing a black baseball type hat with a white letter, a gray bandana covering his face and a black long sleeved shirt with a possible gray design on it or just a gray undershirt, black shorts and shoes
