Sheriff: Kentucky man shoots, kills nephew amid argument

A man shot and killed his nephew, then shot his niece before killing himself, officials say.

POLK CITY, Fla. -- A man shot and killed his nephew, then shot his niece, before killing himself  in Polk City on Saturday, Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd said.

Deputies were called to the 9500 block of Evans Road about 7:54 p.m.

According to Judd, the man and his wife were visiting from Kentucky and staying with their niece and nephew.

The uncle and aunt went out to dinner and got into an argument. They returned home.

Judd said the nephew tried to calm the uncle down, and the uncle shot him. The nephew died.

The nephew's wife rushed to help her husband, and the uncle shot her, Judd said. The woman was taken to Lakeland Regional Medical Center in stable condition.

According to Judd, the uncle then "stared" at his wife, then shot himself. He died of his injury.

The uncle's wife has been taken to Lakeland Regional Medical Center. Judd said she had pre-existing medical conditions.

Judd said the names of those involved would not be released until Sunday.
