Pasco man decks out car to honor veterans

A local veteran is making sure his compatriots are not forgotten.

PORT RICHEY, Fla. -- Every year we pay special tribute to veterans on this day. But George Kollmer has made it his mission to recognize them every day, spending his own time and money doing so.

We spoke to him about the unique way he might get your attention on the road. He's decked out his entire car in U.S. military paraphernalia and says he's driven it across the country.

Reporter: Talk to me about this car. Where did the idea for this come from?

George: It's the only car (like this) in the whole United States. Everything that you see on it I created and I did.

Reporter: Why'd you do this for the veterans?

George: Because I love my country and I love the veterans. And because unfortunately, with a bad heart I was rejected from the service and I wanted to show the veterans that they had someone out there that cares.

I say America, wake up. If it wasn't for our vets fighting on an everyday basis and losing their lives 24/7, those people that are out there would not be standing and living in the freedom and the pursuit of happiness that they entertain every day.

I may not be over there, but I am really trying to do my part here in America and I do it on every day. No veteran is ever forgotten by me, I stand behind them 24/7, 365 days a year and they know it.
