Deputies help evacuate mobile home park in Clearwater

Pinellas County deputies had to help 18 families evacuate Wednesday night from flooded homes in Clearwater.

Deputies tell 10News WTSP they had to evacuate one man with medical issues by boat from Mariners Cove Mobile Home Park.  It’s in a low-lying area that’s prone to flooding off Ulmerton Road.

The evacuation is voluntary.  10News WTSP is told people are making arrangements for a place to stay. A shelter has been opened for anyone who needs it at the Ross Norton Park Community Center on MLK in Clearwater.

“They’ve got it blocked off.  The water is high.  I’m just here to get some clothes and ride it out and go back to work tomorrow, until whenever it goes down,” says Mariners Cove neighbor Marcos Olivar.

Duke Energy cut power to the park.

Several families are spending the night in a shelter that's been set up at the Ross Norton Park Community Center,  1426 S M.L.K. Jr Ave, Clearwater.
