Falling temperatures good for strawberries flavor

Protecting plants in cold weather

Temperatures are forecasted to fall into the forties, but strawberry farmers are very chill about it.

"It just doesn't have the characteristics of a hard freeze," said Jim Meeks of Parkesdale Market.

In fact this cool down is perfect to help produce the flavor you want in strawberries.

"If they don't get the cool weather they're just about not worth it. They don't look good and they don't taste good," Meeks said.

A cool weather crop, it helps boost the size and sugar levels. With no freeze warnings, farmers will be alert but not alarmed.
