CLAY COUNTY, Fla.—A man was taken to a local hospital after being shot in the leg by his wife when he reached into her purse to buy drugs in north Jacksonville Monday afternoon, police say.
The couple, according to First Coast News, drove to a BP gas station in Clay County off Blanding Boulevard before a bystander noticed the man bleeding and called police. The Clay County and Jacksonville sheriff's offices responded, and police later learned that the shooting happened in Jacksonville just north of downtown earlier in the day.
The woman told authorities that the shooting was an accident, and that she shot him because he was trying to get money out of his purse for drugs.
First responders took the man to Clay County Medical for treatment.
At this time, the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office aggravated battery investigative unit is investigating.
