Zimmerman not employee at FL gun store

(USA TODAY) -- George Zimmerman was spotted Sunday by police sitting outside a store in Florida after a recent burglary, according to a Deland Police Department police report.

Despite some media reports saying Zimmerman is a security guard at the store, he is not.

The store, Pompano Pat's Motorcycles, sells motorcycles, as well as firearms and ammunition.

A store employee, Sam Porter, said Zimmerman is not an employee, in an interview with USA TODAY Network.

Pat Johnson, owner of the store, said the same in an interview with WKMG-TV in Orlando.

This is the same store that offered Zimmerman a free gun after he was acquitted last year of murdering Trayvon Martin, reports WKMG in Orlando.

On Sunday, Zimmerman told a police officer that he and Johnson are friends, and Zimmerman was sitting behind the business in his car with Johnson's permission, according to the police report.

Porter said Johnson did not ask Zimmerman to sit outside the business.
