HCSO tries to ease rising tensions in wake of unarmed man's death

Hillsborough County sheriff's officials spoke with NAACP officials and church pastors Thursday night in an effort to temper rising tensions over the fatal shooting of an unarmed black man Tuesday.

Our news partner the Tampa Bay Times reports sheriff's officials spoke with community leaders during a private phone conference and assured them they would thoroughly investigate the death of 22-year-old Levonia Riggins.

Publicly, the Sheriff's Office has released little about the circumstances of Riggins' death, and Sheriff David Gee has said nothing. The Hillsborough State Attorney's Office is expected to investigate.

Two days of small protests followed the incident, which occurred as investigators searched a home in Clair-Mel.
