Altercation over Trump hat leads to man's arrest

A politically-fueled incident arose in Spring Hill over a simple remark.

All this political chaos began inside a Spring Hill Dunkin' Donuts store when a couple went in to get coffee.

"I see a guy with a camo print 'Make America Great Again' hat and I just simply look at him and say hey man I love your hat. He tips his hat, walks away and thanks me," said Robert Christenson.

Robert Christenson and his wife say they then heard a man from behind.

"I hear this guy touting off 'oh yeah, if your racist'," said Christenson.

That man.. according to police was Ioannis Papadopoulos. 10News tried to reach him through Facebook and knocked on his door to get his side of the story, but no response.

"The guy was screaming, he was cursing us out ,and calling us names," said Stephanie Holbrook.

Papadopoulos did talk to police though, saying Christenson wanted to fight.

Once management heard the commotion they kicked all three out of the store and more craziness took place in the parking lot.

"His motor is revving," said Christenson.

"He started coming after me," said Holbrook.

According to the police report, none of the witnesses saw Papadopoulos do anything to harm Christenson's wife, but they did see Papadopoulos speed away with Christenson following.

"As I'm running across the street he turns into my place of employment," said Christenson.

According to the police report, Papadopoulos went to a Shell Rapid Lube about a block away in an attempt to get away from Christenson.

"After he drives through there like a maniac three times, he alleges I kicked his door," said Christenson.

That allegation was backed up by witnesses who told police they saw him do it.

"On a level of 1 to 10 it was about a 20. It was a compliment; I was complimenting a man about his hat, it had nothing to do with this man," Christenson said.

Christenson was charged with criminal mischief for allegedly kicking Papadopoulos' car.
