TAMPA, Fla. – The Hillsborough County Health Department has issued a health advisory for two beaches with high levels of enterococci bacteria.
The Environmental Protection Agency recommended the advisory for Ben T. Davis and Picnic Island beaches.
Samples taken Monday were above the threshold for bacteria, according to the health department.
The health department issues an advisory based on the EPA’s standard for enterococci. Beaches with a beach action value of 70.5 or higher are given an advisory.
Health department workers will resample the beaches on Monday, Nov. 20.
The health department plans to lift the advisory once bacteria levels are within a satisfactory range.
