3 die in wrong-way Hillsborough County crash on I-75

The engaged couple were killed in a wrong-way crash on I-4.

Three people died Thursday night in a wrong-way, head-on crash on Interstate 75 South.

The crash happened around 10:02 p.m. on the interstate south of Gibsonton Drive.

The following three people died in the crash:

  • Justin Lakin, 21, of Bradenton, Florida
  • Lashay Waiters, 24, of Bradenton, Florida
  • Yvette Alexandre, 21, of Ruskin, Florida

Lakin was driving a Toyota Corolla northbound in the southbound center lane of I-75 when he hit the Ford Focus with Waiters and Alexandre inside, according to a Florida Highway Patrol news release. Waiters was driving the Focus.

FHP troopers do not know what time Lakin began driving in the wrong direction.

The crash closed I-75 South for several hours, according to the FHP.
