Fatal I-75 crash in Brandon leaves 1 dead

BRANDON, Fla. -- A fatal crash caused heavy delays on I-75 NB near mile marker 256 for multiple hours.

Steven Mark Brierley, 42, and Robert W. Bodycomb, 84, were traveling on I-75 N in the inside lane. Bodycomb was slowed down due to traffic but Brierley did not slow down in time. As a result, Brierley collided with the back of Bodycomb.

After the impact, Brierley's Ford F-150 continued northbound and finally came to a rest in the center travel lane while Bodycomb's Toyota Prius entered the center grass median, rotated, and collided with a guardrail.

Bodycomb died at the scene of the crash. He was wearing a seat belt. His passenger sustained minor injuries and was transported to St. Joseph's Hospital.

Brierley also sustained minor injuries.

I-75 NB has since reopened.
