Jeep interrupts 95th birthday at restaurant

Lake Wales, Florida -- A woman's 95th birthday was interrupted Monday when an SUV drove into the restaurant.

About 4:19 p.m., Genevieve Sheldon was celebrating her birthday with her husband, Carl, 81, with a meal at L'Incontro Italian Cuisine, at 35 State Road 60 West in Lake Wales when a Jeep drove into the restaurant, according to Lake Wales police.

Conor E. Sullivan, 22, of Lake Wales, was driving a 2003 Jeep Liberty eastbound on S.R. 60 when he lost control of the vehicle, drove through the restaurant's parking lot and crashed through its front wall.

The Sheldons were seated near the wall that Sullivan hit, police said. Both Sheldons were hurt, and they suffered lacerations, internal pain and disorientation. Genevieve was transported by helicopter and Carl was taken by ambulance to Lakeland Regional Hospital. Both are in stable condition.

Sullivan fled on foot eastbound on S.R. 60, but officers found him on Domaris Avenue between McGee Tires and Citizen's Bank, according to police. Sullivan resisted arrest, but was taken into custody.

Sullivan was injured in the crash and was taken to Lake Wales Medical Center.

Sullivan is being charged with leaving the scene of an accident with personal injuries, driving while his license was suspended or revoked, and resisting arrest.
