Kiltie band heading to NYC St. Patrick's Day Parade

Sarasota, Florida - A Bay area high school band is heading to the Big Apple for the 253rd annual St. Patrick's Day Parade.

Sarasota's Riverview High School Kiltie Band's 150 members -- including Bagpipers and Highland Dancers -- will join about 250,000 marchers in the one-and-a half mile long walk up 5th Avenue in New York. Students have been practicing since they received the invitation in October.

Kristen Livesey, 18, is a Color Guard in the Band. She says, "A lot of concentration, focus, nothing we can't do. It's just an endurance type thing."

The Kilties will perform alongside Central Park up to St. Patrick's Cathedral. The students will spend a few days taking in Broadway and touring the city.
