PASCO COUNTY -- A funeral employee was arrested after he sold a lady a fake burial plot and pocketed the cash.
The Sheriff's Office says 49-year-old Michael J. Ritz of Trinity, sold a burial plot through Grace Memorial Gardens in March for $2,410.00 to a local woman. It was later discovered the plot was not actually sold after the victim returned to the funeral home because she changed her mind about buying the plot. Ritz allegedly pocketed the cash by putting his name on the check.
Grace Memorial Gardens and Funeral Home did reimburse the elderly victim when they discovered Ritz sold her a fake plot and he was fired. He is now charged with grand theft.
Police also said in a press release, after several weeks of being fired by Grace Memorial Gardens, Ritz obtained employment at another location, Memory Gardens in Tampa on Lake Avenue.
The case is still under investigation.
