Toddler bitten, daycare worker charged with child neglect

Toddler repeatedly bitten at daycare

BRADENTON, Fla. -- A daycare worker in Bradenton is arrested for child neglect, after a toddler is bitten a dozen times by another child.

18-month-old boy Armani Beebe had bite marks on his face, forehead, back, and arm. The incident took place during his stay at J’s Bright Learners on August 29.

Manatee deputies arrested 23-year-old Caci Renee Burke for child neglect.

According to the arrest report, Burke visited with her niece in a nearby room and told deputies she wanted to “hang out” with the adults. The report states Burke peeked in on the kids once. Manatee Sheriff’s Office says she left the children alone for a couple of hours.

“When you are dealing with children that young -- we’re talking about 1-2 year olds -- you have to have direct supervision and you have to have it all the time. A minute to go to the bathroom is fine that’s common sense but not for the extended period of time she left the children,” says Dave Bristow, spokesperson for the Manatee Sheriff’s Office.

DCF has investigated J’s Bright Learners twice in the last year for leaving children, including infants and VPK age, unsupervised. DCF and CPI are investigating along with the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office.
