Tampa, Florida -- The fourth of July is time for celebration fireworks and family fun but a mother has a serious warning for those who celebrate with handguns.
Sandy Duran and her then 12-year-old son were watching New Year's eve fireworks in 2012 in their front yard when Diego was hit in the head by a stray bullet that fell from the sky. Diego, now 15, has slowly recovered but still has some lasting effects.
Since the incident, his mother started a non-profit organization called Bullet-free Sky and each holiday, including today, they spread the word with the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office about the dangers of celebratory gunfire. On the 4th of July they were at Shooter's World shooting range warning of the dangers.
