Narcotics Detectives arrest firefighter

St. Petersburg, FL -- Pinellas County Narcotics detectives have arrested a Largo man for sale and possession of controlled substances after a controlled purchase was made from the suspect.

The suspect, 38-year-old James Allen Comer, is a firefighter and a SWAT Medic for Pinellas Park Fire Department. He also works part-time as an ER Nurse at Northside Hospital in St. Petersburg.

Comer was arrested on a total of 16 charges: 8-counts of sale of a controlled substance and 8-counts of possession of a controlled substance.

Detectives assigned to the Narcotics Division received information on Friday, July 11th, 2014 that the suspect was selling prescription drugs.

The investigation began and through a controlled purchase from the suspect on Friday evening, detectives were able to develop probable cause to arrest him.

Comer was arrested on Saturday, July 12th at about noon in the parking lot of Northside Hospital.

Detectives say Comer sold and was in possession of eight different types of prescription pills, to include morphine, xanax, hydromorphone and oxycontin.

He was transported to the Pinellas County Jail without further incident.

The manner in which Comer obtained the medication is still the subject of an open investigation.

10 News spoke with the spokesperson for Pinellas Park Fire Department, Tim Cadell. Cadell informed us of the following:

"Comer was hired in September 2008. He earns $47,000 a year and has had a clean record up until this alleged incident. As of now, Comer has been suspended with pay"
