New outdoor market comes to St. Pete's Midtown

St. Petersburg, Florida -- St. Petersburg's Midtown neighborhood is getting another new market with a twist!

In addition to the new Walmart that opened two months ago, there will be a new outdoor market once a week.

Every Sunday starting April 6,from 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., about 20 local vendors will sell their fruits and vegetables along 22nd Street South and 9th Avenue.

The Deuces Live Main Street program will be sponsoring the market that will have live music throughout the day.

"It's important for us to bring more business back to the deuces corridor," said the St. Petersburg Director of Urban Development, Nikki Gaskins- Capehart. "22nd Street, at one time, was a thriving market in the African American community and we want to see that return."

The City is still looking for vendors to participate. It costs $60 for a month of space.
