Parents learn more about longer school days

Pasco County, FL— Parents have a chance to learn more about their child's longer school days starting this year.

The longer school day only applies to 4th and 5th grade students at Gulfside, Lacoochee and R.B. Cox elementary school. The schools are holding informational meetings for parents starting Wednesday night.

Gulfside Elementary will have 2 meetings the first starts at 6 p.m. Wednesday, August 6, at the school, 2329 Anclote Blvd. in Holiday the second meeting will be held 6 p.m. Thursday, August 7, at Weston Oaks Apartments, 1251 Weston Oaks Dr. in Holiday.

Lacoochee Elementary will hold a meeting 6 p.m. Thursday, August 7, at the school, 38815 Cummer Road in Dade City.

R.B. Cox Elementary will hold their meeting 6 p.m. Monday, August 11, at the school, 37615 Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd. in Dade City.

The nearly 1 hour addition of school was approved by the school board nearly a week ago.

FCAT scores have been in the bottom 300, this is a way to help students improve their reading skills.
