Deputies investigate fire that left a woman dead

Zephyrhills, FL-- An early morning duplex catches fire and leaves a woman dead.

In a press conference, Pasco County Sheriff Chris Nocco told 10 News that 27-year-old Tiffany Lorraine Milam died in the fire, only two feet from her front door.

Right now her boyfriend, 30-year-old Christopher Henry Peterson, is in custody and charged with violation of pretrial release.

Neighbors said Peterson and his girlfriend have a history of domestic violence incidents.

Arrest records show that Peterson was just arrested May 1 on domestic battery and possession of marijuana charges. That's when he was ordered to stay away from Milam, but did not.

Firefighters arrived on the scene around 1:45 Friday morning and it took them about 30 minutes to put the fire out.

Peterson told deputies he was sleeping when he smelled smoke, warned his girlfriend and ran out of the house... but Milam did not made it out alive.

According to Chief Nocco, Peterson is cooperating as detectives continue to investigate the fire.
