The Pasco Sheriff's Office says it happened at a home in the Hudson Estates Neighborhood. A TV fell on top of the child and the child had to be taken by helicopter to Bayfront Medical Center in St. Pete.
Injuries from falling TVs are much more common than you might think and in many cases they can be deadly.
According to the Consumer Product Safety commission, in 2010, there were 20,000 emergency room visits for injuries related to falling TVs.
There are three things you can do to prevent falling TV injuries:
- Keep toys or anything a child might try to grab away from the top of the TV
- Move your TV away from the edge of a stand or the furniture it's on
- Anchor your TV to the ground or a wall
