FHP report released in deadly motorcycle crash

St. Petersburg, Florida – The Florida Highway Patrol has released its report into a deadly crash that left a motorcyclist dead.

On Feb. 20th 2013, Keith Williamson was speeding in excess of 120 miles per hour on the eastbound side of the Courtney Campbell Causeway when he slammed into a FHP cruiser and was killed.

His family argued that he was being chased by Clearwater Police Officer Nick Giordano in violation of department policy that prohibits pursuits for non-violent offenders.

After denying the chase allegations, Giordano was later reprimanded by his bosses for failing to use due care while trying to pull over Williamson and the group he was traveling with while insisting it was not a pursuit.

The FHP report found that Williamson was at fault for causing the crash because of his speed, and added in its report that no charges will be filed because the at-fault person (Williamson) died.

John Trevena, who represents Williamson's family, told 10 News by phone on Monday that he does plan to take legal action.

Details of what he will do are expected to be released later this week.
